Teresa Singleton is one of only three women fire engine operators in the city and runs an organization that gives back to Detroit's residents.

Teresa Singleton started her career with the Detroit Fire Department 25 years ago and have been active in departments matters and the community since she joined.

Singleton, a senior fire engine operator, ensures Ladder 17 is always ready to make a run, according to Detroit CBS Local. She's one of only three women who hold that rank.

She served as vice president of Detroit Fire Fighters Local 344, and is the first female president of the Phoenix of the Fire Department, an organization that provides assistance to the residents of the city.

Last year, they gave out over 6,000 winter coats and provided 5,000 Easter dresses.

“She works tirelessly, even when where here at the fire house responding to all types of emergencies she’s in her office or her room on her laptop,” Lt. John Ellis told the television station.
